Canberra’s biggest bike race begins this Friday

The biggest 3 day tour in NSW and the ACT begins in Canberra this Friday. Over 300 of the best cyclists from across Australia are set to arrive in Canberra to race this mammoth road cycling event. New spectator friendly courses have been a major feature of this year's event, with many cyclists' travelling with their families who will be visiting Floriade and the ACT’s national attractions as well as cheering on their family members and friends. Tour ambassador and recent Subaru National Road Series round winner Rebecca Wiasak is confident that the new courses will meet the expectations of the cycling community. ‘The new courses set the Tour apart from other National Road Series events and deliver a unique Canberra experience. The Yarralumla embassy loop with the finish on Black Mountain will definitely deliver some surprises, and the location and atmosphere will make it that Stage pretty hard to top.’ ‘We are extremely excited to welcome interstate cyclists to the Tour, and to show...

National Capital Tour entries open for 2016

The National Capital Tour is back with a vengeance in 2016, and is looking to compete with Floriade as an attraction to interstate visitors on the third weekend of September. A popular tour with NRS competitors, the National Capital Tour is aiming to become a destination event for cyclists competing in the NSW and VRS open racing circuits with Canberra being situated an easy three hour drive from Sydney or Wagga Wagga, having ample accommodation, and the new spectator friendly courses. "Safety and variety have been the focus for the National Capital Tour organising committee in planning the courses for 2016, and locating the racing close to Canberra's national attractions at Lake Burley Griffin has been a logical next step for the tour," said National Capital Tour Media Director Michelle Balaz. "With racing at NSW and VRS opens attracting increasing numbers across the grades, why not come race in Canberra and bring the whole family to experience a weekend in the nation's capital...

National Capital Tour confirmed for 2016

Capital Cycling and Cycling ACT have been planning the 2016 National Capital Tour since the last tour finished in September 2015, and are proud to say that it is definitely going ahead in 2016. "The hearsay around whether the National Capital Tour was going ahead after the Tour of Toowoomba was postponed for 2016 has been hugely disappointing for our organisational team as well as the cycling community in Canberra." "At the end of the day, the athletes that travel to these events make a huge financial commitment to do so, particularly the smaller teams or individual Open entrants who are self-funded, and these sorts of rumours only add to the destabilisation of an already shaky NRS." "The Capital Cycling and Cycling ACT team is looking forward to the continued support of CA and the cycling community to help build this race into one of Australia?s premier Open events. We?re looking forward to welcoming cyclists from across all grades in Australia to Canberra in...
