The National Capital Tour is back with a vengeance in 2016, and is looking to compete with Floriade as an attraction to interstate visitors on the third weekend of September.
A popular tour with NRS competitors, the National Capital Tour is aiming to become a destination event for cyclists competing in the NSW and VRS open racing circuits with Canberra being situated an easy three hour drive from Sydney or Wagga Wagga, having ample accommodation, and the new spectator friendly courses.
“Safety and variety have been the focus for the National Capital Tour organising committee in planning the courses for 2016, and locating the racing close to Canberra’s national attractions at Lake Burley Griffin has been a logical next step for the tour,” said National Capital Tour Media Director Michelle Balaz.
“With racing at NSW and VRS opens attracting increasing numbers across the grades, why not come race in Canberra and bring the whole family to experience a weekend in the nation’s capital as it comes alive in Spring.”
“This is the perfect opportunity to race the same roads as Paris-Roubaix winner Mathew Hayman, La Course winner Chloe Hosking and Tour de France stage winner Michael Matthews.”
The NRS event will be held from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 September 2016 and will consist of four stages – an individual time trial, road race, kermesse and a criterium.
The Open Races will be held from Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 September 2016 and will consist of A, B, C & D grades racing three stages – two road races and a criterium.
